| Grantville Rifle Range | | Target shooting in country Victoria entered an exciting new area with the introduction on the Grantville Rifle Range of an electronic targeting system which instantaneously indicates exactly where the bullet strikes the target and records a score for that shot. It makes obsolete the traditional manual target marking and scoring practice that has been in use on rifle ranges for the last 150 years. This system was designed by Mr. Rod Gray who used the Grantville Rifle Range to initially trial and develop the system.

| Wonthaggi Miners Cricket Club | | For years, Alyce played backyard cricket with her brother and believed cricket was only for boys “I just assumed that I wasn’t allowed to play” Alyce admits. However, the Wonthaggi Miners Cricket Club has welcomed Alyce into their club.
The Wonthaggi Miners Cricket Club is administrated by the Leongatha District Cricket Association (LDCA) and there are no rules that prevent females from playing. Club Secretary, Terry Earl declared that “Cricket can be played by anyone, male or female; we are hoping that Alyce’s decision to participate will encourage other females to play in the local competition”. In Australia, the number of male cricketers clearly outweighs female participants.
With low physical activity levels amongst Australian women and high rates of obesity in Australia, cricket is a great way of increasing fitness, hand eye co-ordination and social interaction.
With 15 affiliated LDCA clubs, there is sure to be a club to accommodate any other women wanting to play in the South Gippsland region.
Pre season for the Miners begins Saturday 15th August at the Wonthaggi Primary School gym. Alyce explains, “It’s a great way to develop basic cricket skills in a relaxed environment, before the real season begins.”
