| APYG Education Package Information | |
From the 5th – 10th of October, Wheelchair Sport Victoria, with the support of the Australian Paralympic Committee and the State Government, is hosting the inaugural Australian Paralympic Youth Games (APYG). This is the first multi-sport, multi-disability youth event of its kind that will provide opportunities for talented young athletes with a disability from Australia and overseas to compete in a range of 6 Paralympic sports. | |
| As part of the APYG, schools are offered the opportunity to participate in a free “APYG Education Package”. This package invites these groups to attend the APYG and be offered the following:
• Wheel Talk disability awareness session (45mins) • Practical activity (wheelchair basketball and/or wheelchair relay races) (45mins) • Tickets to spectate at least 1 sports event (45+ mins)
In addition to participating in the Education Program (presentation, activity and event spectating), there is also the opportunity to bus in the rest of the students from your school/ tafe/ university to spectate the many events on offer. A competition timetable is still being finalised however it can be confirmed that there will be competition held from Monday 5th – Saturday 10th October in 6 different sports. The days and times will vary according to the sport. The sports on offer include:
• Wheelchair basketball • Athletics • CP Football (Cerebral Palsy, 7-a-side) • Swimming • Table Tennis • Tennis
In addition to the competition, there may also be the opportunity for your school to watch the opening or closing ceremonies.
