| GippSport's vision for All Abilities AFL | | GippSport is currently working with a number of stakeholders including the Gippsland League & FIDA in organising a structure that will allow an All Abilities football league to prosper throughout the region:
At this early stage the proposed structure for 2012 will be:
• a 4 week competition looking to start late May or early June • Only 5 or 6 teams this year which will be based on towns where Special Schools or day services are located • There will not be a home and away season, all the games will be played at the same venue and moved around to each club to host a day • Played on Sundays on alternate weeks to the regular FIDA competition • Age 14yrs and older • Will be looking at modified games to start with, possibly 9 a side
This proposed structure will work in conjunction with the current Gippsland Grunters FIDA team, and it is hoped to have a number of junior/Auskick type programs feeding this program.
| Gippsland Grunters - Open Age AFL | | The Gippsland Grunters are Gippsland's regional representative AFL team. The team is made up of players from all over Gippsland and competes in the Melbourne FIDA competition.
The season runs from the end of April until August with the team playing 10 games, 5 of which are home games played at various Gippsland venues. Players for this team train at their local footy club and come together on the weekend to play.
Clubs that currently support the Gippsland Grunters are: • Wonthaggi Football Netball Club • Warragul Football Netball Club • Maffra Football Netball Club • Sale Football Netball Club
GippSport is hoping to work with more clubs in the 2012 season to provide more opportunities for players with disability. Please contact Daniel Poynton or Brenton Dinsdale at GippSport to find out how you can become involved.
| Junior All Abilities Footy | | In 2012 GippSport will be assisting the local Special Development Schools and local junior football clubs start junior all abilities football programs.
The first program of this type will be hosted by Southside Junior Football Club in Traralgon in partnership with the Latrobe Special Development School.
Participants in this program will attend one training session per week throughout the Junior football season, and will be offered a club membership and uniform like any other club member would. The program will be a skill based and will include many fun and inclusive games.
To particpate in this program please contact Dan Poynton - 0428 358 336
